Unexpected Birthday Surprise

She turns fourteen today.  About a week ago, a sweet friend of mine read this post and sent Rebecca a little facebook message that read:

Rebecca, Steve read your mom's blog and he has a Canon AE1 with a couple of lens that you can get for a "steal!" He will give it to you if you are interested. Hope you can still buy film! Freda

A day later she arrived with the camera.  It thrilled Rebecca's soul.  We went for film and a battery and that sweet camera was good to go.  

She has been snapping to her hearts content.   We've already dropped off two rolls of film.  (Can you believe CVS still develops in house???)  I reckon she'll be more selective about her shots when she sees the price tag she has to pay for those two rolls.

So grateful for this girl, her joy in this sweet act of kindness, 

and dear friends who delight to share.

Father's Day Fishing

Here's the thing... my husband loves the outdoors.  

He works outdoors and he plays outdoors.

His only request for Father's Day...

... was that we all go fishing with him for an hour.

We left after two and a half....

... but that's just because it got dark.

It was a glorious evening...

...full of sunshine, and mosquitoes, and a frog that sounded like a goat.  

(I called it a "goatfrog.")

Andy and Rebecca caught all the fish.

And Andy caught a snapping Turtle.... that snapped his line... and pole.

Another Lamb family outing for the memory book.

Happy Father's Day to our favorite outdoorsman.

We love you, Andy Lamb.

Grits and Groceries

 Nana is here for a visit.  We all get excited when she comes.  

She is just nice to have around.

She raised a fine man and I feel blessed to call her my dear, dear friend.

 

Andy requested a trip to the Saylors Crossroads for a little "Grits and Groceries"... always a treat!

 

 We found some friends there...

 ...and fed the goats.  

 This one was especially cute.

 
 

 I'm glad my girls get to have him for their daddy.  

 He's a good one.

Unexpected Play Date

 My girls get to spend a few hours each week with these munchkins.  

(I'm a little jealous.)

Today, they came by our house on an errand and  we decided to keep them... 

for a little while.

I just love to hear him talk.  

This one's blue eyes match her sparkly personality.

 And this one won my heart the day that he was born.  Sometimes I just show up at his house to hold him.  He's happy and smiley and all kinds of cute.

Their momma babysat my girls.

 Now my girls babysit hers.

Time marches on.

Mother-Daughter Road Trip

We took a little road trip with these two to Charlotte.

It was an adventure that included thrift shopping, fabulous food, and a midnight evacuation of our hotel because someone burnt toast!

There was also quite a bit of laughter...

...and a whole lot of fun.

The Depot at Gibson Mill was filled with happy!   

(I mean, just look at those adjectives!)

We stayed for three hours.  There were 640 booths.... wow!

Rebecca is all about the old cameras.  She is determined to find one in working condition for a steal.

A LAMB mason jar!  Are you kidding me???

A Family Affair was my favorite childhood show.  I loved "Mrs. Beasley", Buffy's doll, and longed for one of my very own.

I have searched the internet and local stores for a reasonably priced bike basket.  Imagine my delight when Suzanne spotted this one!  

Bebe...we thought you needed these.  

A "quilted" cookie jar!

There was booth after booth of charming little places like the above.

Some with great wisdom..

Some with old sheets...

And some with old Singers!

I was so thankful to get this time with her.  

She LOVES this kind of shopping and we had such fun together.  

My mom and dad still have one of these in the kitchen...

with the long cord and the circle dial. 

We found piles of vintage pillowcases!

And some fine evening wear.

And then it was off to IKEA!

And dinner.... Rebecca and I split the Pear and Blue Cheese Flatbread with caramelized onions and arugula.  It was amazing!!!  (I love that she likes the "fancy food.")

Of course there was the usual Target stop...

And a trip to West Elm...ahhhhh.  (Mabry said, "I could stay in here ALL DAY!")

Their favorite show is Design Star...no wonder they love the "home decor" stores!

It was a fun 48 hours....

We found some treasures...

 ...and treasured the time with  friends!
